The Chateau de Thésée
Château de Thésée is located in the village of the same name, in the heart of the Cher Valley. Its vineyards face due South and extend over the northern slopes of this tributary of the Loire, enabling it to produce some of the earliest-ripening grapes in the Cher Valley.
Products
Our range comprises 3 wines produced entirely from organically-grown Sauvignon blancgrapes. Labelled under the Touraine and Touraine Chenonceaux appellations, the wines are aromatic and structured with very refined mineral characters.
The Team
For over 35 years, their names have been associated with wine. François Gilbert and Philippe Gaillard are the creators of the Gilbert & Gaillard brand. Both of them have a strong appreciation for the finest vineyards and in 2022 they bought their second vineyard, in Thésée, formerly known as Domaine du Bouc. They also own a magnificent 33-hectare winery in the Saint-Chinian appellation area, Château Gilbert & Gaillard, one of the jewels in Languedoc’s crown.

History of the Chateau
In 1144, Thibaud IV, the Count of Blois, transferred ownership of Thésée church, along with its dependencies including the hillside where the present-day chateau is situated, Bouc hill, to Pontlevoy Abbey. The unusual name of Le Bouc stems from a distortion of the original place name ‘Le Bout’ designating the far side of land farmed in Thésée by monks, directly adjacent to the extensive forest of Choussy. The term can still be found on the Cassini map dating back to the end of the 18th century.
Expertise
Drawing on over 35 years’ experience in wine, François Gilbert, Philippe Gaillard and their team put their knowledge into practice in order to craft wines in their image, whilst at the same time fully encapsulating sense of place.

An Early Vintage
The weather in the Cher Valley was very mild with above-average temperatures and significant rainfall at the end of winter which enabled the vines to replenish their water reserves, despite the dry spring and summer.
A Natural Jewel
Farmed organically and also certified HVE, the Château de Thésée is located at the crossroads of three historic, natural regions – Touraine, Berry and Sologne, situated on the rolling hills of the Cher on the edge of Choussy forest.
This location is extremely favourable for promoting biodiversity, a bountiful legacy that we aim to preserve in order to maximise the quality of our wines.
